20,000 handlooms in the country, and 3 to 4 weavers work on each loom. Every
year 4 to 5 lakh sarees are produced in this city.
Features-
These sarees are known as the queen of the
sarees and have a noted texture, glimmer and refinement. The manufacturing of
these sarees is done using the heavy silk material which gets manufactured at
home. These sarees are rated based on the weight and the heavier the saree, the
better the quality. The pattu sarees which
are made from the Korean and Chinese silk are of lighter weight in comparison.
Manufacturing-
The silk thread which is used in these
sarees is dipped into the rice water and then dried. The Kanchipuram sarees are
hand woven, and the silk yarn is dyed with interleaved designs which are made
of zari. This process involves twisting a silk thread which is made of silk
thread and then moved with pure gold.
